Man taken into custody for attempting to break into a car at commuter lot in Harwinton

Connecticut State Police arrested Lawrence Patterson, a Meriden man, after he attempted to break into a car in a commuter lot in Harwinton. Police found burglary tools and drug paraphernalia in his car. Patterson claimed the red Jeep he was trying to break into belonged to a family member, but the trooper found this to be untrue. The trooper asked Patterson to shut off his car, provide his license, and step out, but Patterson resisted being placed in handcuffs. Despite passing sobriety tests, Patterson’s car had mismatched registration plates, was not properly insured, and his license was suspended. Inside the car, police found burglary tools, drug paraphernalia, an open alcohol container, and items that did not belong to Patterson. The registered owner of the Jeep confirmed they did not know Patterson or give him permission to access the vehicle. Patterson faces multiple charges, including burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, and more. He was held on a $20,000 bond and had an arraignment scheduled for January 6th at Torrington Superior Court.
