Geno Auriemma Achieves NCAA Record 1,217th Victory

Geno Auriemma made history as the winningest coach in NCAA college basketball after UConn’s 85-41 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson. This win marked Auriemma’s 1,217th career victory, surpassing retired Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer. Auriemma, who started his career with UConn in 1985, has an impressive record of 1,217-162 with only one losing season.

To celebrate this milestone, UConn honored Auriemma and assistant coach Chris Dailey’s 40 years at the school with over 60 former players in attendance, including basketball legends like Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, and Maya Moore. Paige Bueckers and Sarah Strong stood out in the game with impressive performances.

Despite trailing early in the game, FDU was unable to keep up with UConn’s dominance, and the Huskies took control to secure the victory. Coach Auriemma’s legacy in college basketball continues to grow, solidifying his status as one of the greatest coaches in the sport’s history.

Looking ahead, UConn will face Oregon State in their next game on November 25 at 7:30 PM. Fans and supporters can expect an exciting match as Geno Auriemma and his team look to build on their success and continue their winning streak.
