Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost spacecraft has achieved a significant milestone in space exploration by capturing its first image from the moon. The stunning image was shared on the company’s official social media account, showcasing the bold ambition and innovation behind the mission. This marks only the second private mission to achieve this milestone and the first to do so upright.
The Blue Ghost Mission 1 successfully landed on the lunar surface near Mons Latreille, a volcanic formation in Mare Crisium. The spacecraft is equipped with 10 instruments, including a lunar soil analyzer and a radiation-tolerant computer, aimed at supporting NASA’s Artemis program and reducing costs.
CEO Jason Kim confirmed the spacecraft’s stability and upright position, signaling a successful landing. Blue Ghost is scheduled to capture high-definition imagery of a total eclipse on March 14 and record a lunar sunset on March 16, providing valuable insights into lunar surface conditions.
