Residents across the state persevere through extreme cold weather – NBC Connecticut

Residents of West Hartford, Connecticut, experienced a drastic change in weather conditions within a week. From playing golf and pickleball in shorts on New Year’s Eve, they were now bundled up to face single-digit wind chills. Despite the cold temperatures, people like Chris McCormick and Richard Grew found ways to stay warm. McCormick highlighted his collection of warm clothing, including a UConn Husky hat he got for Christmas, while Grew mentioned his battery-operated heated gloves as a lifesaver in the freezing weather. The harsh conditions even caused a change in plans for some, like Grew, who abandoned a walk to pay taxes due to the extreme cold.

Local hardware store owner Hugh Hollinshead noted an increase in sales of winter essentials like snow shovels, ice melt, and snow blowers. With the winter season expected to bring more snow, he anticipated even higher demand for these items. Despite the cold, West Hartford residents were preparing for the upcoming winter weather with suitable gear and supplies.
