Residents of Plainville are expressing opposition to construction company Tilcon’s request to expand quarry operations to a second site in town. Tilcon, known for manufacturing basalt used in road construction, aims to turn 83 acres of residential property into a quarry zone. Neighbors are concerned about the impact on the environment, wildlife, and town infrastructure. The company has not conducted a wildlife study yet. While representatives argue that the expansion would bring economic benefits, some residents believe the disruption caused by Tilcon’s existing facility is already problematic. The issue was discussed at a recent town meeting, with another public hearing scheduled for May 13. Despite assertions of increased tax revenue and job opportunities, concerned neighbors are hoping the town will deny the application. Catherine Procko, a long-time resident, stressed the importance of preserving the town’s current state. Neither Tilcon nor their consulting firm has provided comment on the matter.
