Bears and Cubs Swipe Food from Granby Home: DEEP – NBC Connecticut

Bear Family Burgles Granby Home

GRANBY – A black bear and her three cubs made an unexpected visit to a home on Barndoor Hills Road over the weekend, helping themselves to some food before making a swift exit.

On Saturday, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) EnCon Police received a report of the bear and cubs entering the residence. However, authorities were canceled before arrival, as the wildlife had already vacated the premises.

Fortunately, the occupants of the home were unharmed and exited safely. Investigators believe the bears accessed the house through a screen door in the basement and departed after snatching a few food items.

Despite a thorough search, police were unable to locate the bear family after their brief heist. This incident highlights the increasing interactions between wildlife and humans as bears forage for food in suburban areas, underscoring the importance of securing food sources to deter such intrusions. Residents are reminded to take precautions to minimize potential encounters with wildlife.
