Chris Brown Enters Not Guilty Plea for 2023 Nightclub Bottle Assault Charge in U.K. Court

Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from an alleged attack in a London nightclub in February 2023. Appearing at London’s Southwark Crown Court in a navy blue suit, Brown formally denied one count of attempting to cause “grievous bodily harm” after allegedly assaulting music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle. In addition to this charge, he faces another count of assault and one for possessing an offensive weapon, with pleas for those charges to be entered at a future hearing. Alongside Brown, American rapper Omololu Akinlolu, known as “Hoody Baby,” has also pleaded not guilty to the same grievous bodily harm charge. Both men are accused of the attack at Tape nightclub in Mayfair.

The 36-year-old singer was arrested in Manchester last month when preparing for a series of concerts. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence ranging from two to 16 years. Following his arrest, he was initially remanded in custody but secured release after posting a £5 million ($6.7 million) bond.

Despite these legal troubles, Brown’s tour is ongoing, having begun on June 15 in Manchester. He recently performed in Cardiff and is scheduled to perform at the 60,000-capacity Tottenham Hotspur Stadium soon, with additional dates across Birmingham, Glasgow, Ireland, and the U.S. The next court appearance for Brown and Akinlolu is set for July, with their trial date scheduled for October 26, 2026.
