Tragic Discovery: Glastonbury Woman Found Dead Amidst Hoarding Conditions

GLASTONBURY, Conn. (AP) — The recent discovery of 73-year-old Mary Notarangelo’s remains has shocked the Glastonbury community. Known for her reclusive lifestyle, the retired Bridgeport police detective was reported missing last July when a welfare check revealed severe hoarding conditions at her home.

Notarangelo, who illustrated her love for birds and animals on social media, was not seen since texting a friend about being unwell in early June 2024. Authorities faced significant obstacles during several search attempts due to "mountains" of garbage obstructing access to her home. It wasn’t until February 2025 that a work crew using an excavator finally uncovered her skeletal remains beneath debris near the front door.

"The house was filled with cobwebs and garbage, and finding a path was nearly impossible," noted Officer Anthony Longo in his report. The state medical examiner could not determine the cause of death due to the condition of the remains. Friends described Notarangelo as a caring individual dedicated to her animals and passionate about her faith as a Wiccan.

Investigators continue to look into the events leading up to her death, which has left those who knew her heartbroken.
