Construction to Transform Connecticut Avenue in Dupont Circle Begins Next Week

A significant redevelopment project will commence next week, aiming to create a deck over portions of Connecticut Avenue NW in Dupont Circle, with a projected timeline of two years. Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Jeff Rueckgauer highlighted that this initiative has been decades in the making, dating back to the 1960s. The endeavor seeks to enhance the area, making it a welcoming space for residents and visitors alike.

Rueckgauer noted the overwhelming positive community response, emphasizing a desire for a vibrant environment that moves beyond focusing solely on vehicular traffic. The project will kick off along the median of Connecticut Avenue, extending north to T Street near the Washington Hilton.

The most significant traffic disruptions are anticipated to begin in July, but the D.C. Department of Transportation has assured residents that at least one lane of traffic will remain open throughout the construction. The community has been encouraged to engage and share input on potential uses for the new space, including the possibility of relocating the Dupont Circle farmers market to the area on weekends.

Residents are optimistic about the transformation, which promises to enhance the neighborhood’s overall appeal.
