Community Rallies After ICE Detains Workers at Southington Car Wash

Southington, Conn. – A crowd gathered in Hartford Monday evening, expressing outrage over the detention of four employees from a local car wash allegedly by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The incident occurred earlier that day at the car wash, where the owner stated that the agents, who did not initially identify themselves, questioned his employees about their immigration status.

Juan Fonseca Tapia, of the TRUST Act Coalition, reported that the agents began asking for documentation around 9:30 AM before taking the men into custody. The ensuing community response highlighted strong relationships between the workers and local residents, many of whom praised their dedication and work ethic.

Mark Marino, a loyal customer, expressed shock at the detentions, emphasizing the hardworking nature of the men he observed over the past six years. Protesters at the rally labeled the incident as a "kidnapping," asserting that it violated due process rights.

Marcus Palumbo, a supporter, condemned the actions as illegal, while Julio Nunez criticized the current administration for its stance on immigration. ICE has not yet commented on the matter. The event has sparked significant concern regarding immigrant rights in Connecticut.
