NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — Authorities have arrested 21-year-old Navarre Zeigler, charging him with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in March. Zeigler faces multiple charges, including carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and tampering with physical evidence.

The incident took place on March 18, when New London police responded to reports of gunfire near 22 Moore Street. Upon arrival, officers found Avery Rivera, a 20-year-old from Ledyard, suffering from serious gunshot wounds to his torso. Despite immediate medical intervention, Rivera was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

Zeigler is currently held on a $1 million cash/surety bond as the investigation continues. The police have not disclosed further details regarding the events leading up to the shooting but emphasize that the investigation remains active. This case adds to growing concerns about gun violence in the area, prompting community members to seek greater safety measures.
