Mexican beauty influencer Valeria Marquez was tragically shot and killed during a TikTok live stream at a beauty salon in Zapopan. The 23-year-old was seen moments before her death in the same bodysuit she wore in a recent Instagram post, holding a stuffed pig in her lap. Just before the incident, she spoke Spanish, stating, “They’re coming,” to which an offscreen voice replied, “Hey, Vale?” She muted the stream seconds before being shot. Following the shocking news, her Instagram followers surged from under 100,000 to nearly 260,000, as comments flooded in expressing both support and disbelief.
Police and paramedics confirmed her death upon arrival, and the Jalisco state attorney general’s office announced that her case is being investigated for potential femicide, characterized as an intentional killing with a gender-related motivation. Research indicates that Mexico ranks second in femicides in Latin America, recording nearly 800 cases in 2024, despite a decrease from previous years. Typically, victims have known their aggressors, highlighting concerns about intimate partner violence.
Initial inquiries suggest that a man entered the salon and fired at Marquez. Investigators are diligently collecting evidence to better understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Reports state her body will be sent to the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences for official identification and an autopsy.
