UConn’s Alex Heard Completes Strong Sophomore Season at NCAA Amherst Regional
AMHERST, VA – UConn sophomore Alex Heard, hailing from Boca Raton, FL, capped off an impressive season by competing as an individual at the 2025 NCAA Amherst Regional, held at the Poplar Grove Golf Club. Heard earned his spot in the tournament after clinching the 2025 BIG EAST individual championship two weeks prior.
Despite facing challenging weather conditions and a revised schedule, Heard finished the three-round event, which featured 13 teams and 86 golfers. Paired with fellow BIG EAST competitor Peicheng Chen for the final round, Heard finished tied for 40th place, shooting a consistent two-over-par 72 in each of the three rounds for a total of 216 (+6). His performance showcased his skill, including 10 birdies over the 54 holes and notable play on the par 5s, where he averaged 4.67, finishing two-under.
The tournament saw the Oklahoma Sooners claim the title at -10, alongside UConn’s BIG EAST rivals Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Wake Forest, and Pepperdine, who also secured spots in the NCAA Championship. Texas State’s Sakke Siltala finished second overall, earning the distinction of top individual finisher to advance.
Heard reflected on a successful sophomore season, having played 25 rounds across 10 events and achieving a commendable average of 71.5 per round. His accolades include his first career win as the BIG EAST medalist, alongside five top-20 finishes and three top-10 finishes. Furthermore, Heard garnered All-BIG EAST honors, underscoring his solid performance throughout the season.
As Heard looks ahead, his accomplishments signal a promising future for the UConn men’s golf program.
