IAM and Pratt & Whitney Unable to Reach Agreement as Strike Prolongs

IAM Union Workers Continue Strike Against Pratt & Whitney Over Job and Wage Security

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — IAM Union workers at Pratt & Whitney are entering the sixth day of their strike as contract negotiations have failed to address critical concerns regarding job security, retirement, and wage stability. The strike began on May 4, following an overwhelming rejection of the company’s final contract offer by 80% of union members.

IAM President Wayne McCarthy emphasized the need for Pratt & Whitney to tackle these core issues, stating, “It is now incumbent upon Pratt and Whitney and the RTX executives to address our three core issues.” As the company celebrates its 100th anniversary in Connecticut, union members are eager to negotiate a fair agreement to facilitate their return to work and meet the rising demands from military and commercial clients.

In response to the strike, Pratt & Whitney announced that striking employees would not receive pay or benefits but would have their benefits coverage extended for two weeks. The company expressed its desire to resume negotiations to secure high-paying, skilled manufacturing jobs in Connecticut.

With both sides eager for resolution, the union’s negotiating committee has made it clear they are ready for discussions at a moment’s notice.
