Press Release: Teens Arrested Following Gun Store Burglary
Wolcott, CT – Wolcott police have arrested three 16-year-olds from Bristol in connection with a gun store burglary that occurred in April. The teens are accused of breaking into Sportsmen’s Outpost on April 18, after crashing a stolen Hyundai into the front of the store just before dawn. They reportedly stole nine firearms during the incident.
Following the burglary, the suspects fled in another stolen vehicle, a Kia, which was later discovered submerged in a nearby lake. Inside the Kia, authorities found a handgun with an obliterated serial number. Investigators learned that one of the suspects accidentally shot himself in the hand, believed to have happened while handling one of the stolen guns.
Authorities recovered eight of the nine stolen guns, and evidence suggests the teens intended to sell the firearms for profit. Police also revealed that they received assistance from family members and friends during the crime. As a result, several adults have also been arrested.
The teens face multiple charges, including first-degree burglary and larceny, as well as various firearm-related offenses. The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the full extent of the operation.
