Press Release: Cheshire Caregiver Named Dole Caregiver Fellow
Washington, D.C. (WTNH) – Liz Wright, a dedicated caregiver from Cheshire, has been selected as one of 20 military and veteran caregivers to join the Class of 2025 Dole Caregiver Fellows, as announced by the Elizabeth Dole Foundation on Tuesday.
Wright provides care for her husband, who suffers from PTSD, traumatic brain injury (TBI), tinnitus, and complications from burn pit exposure. Reflecting on her caregiving journey, she expressed, "Raising a family while supporting my husband has left me exhausted and overextended." Navigating the complexities of the Department of Veterans Affairs has further challenged her, causing her to postpone professional and academic aspirations.
As a mother of three and the owner of a leadership development consulting firm, Wright plans to pursue doctoral studies focused on workplace trauma. She emphasized that her caregiving role has instilled patience and highlighted the necessity of self-care.
The Dole Caregiver Fellowship program aims to empower caregivers to lead locally and advocate nationally. Wright will commence her fellowship by attending the Foundation’s 10th Annual National Convening on Military Caregiving on May 20 in Washington, D.C., where she will receive training to better support fellow caregivers in her community.
