Hartford Library Secures Grant to Enhance Spanish-Language Health Resources

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — The Hartford Public Library has received a $2,000 Collection Improvement Grant from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to bolster its collection of Spanish-language health resources. This initiative will focus on health conditions commonly affecting Latino communities, providing crucial information on topics such as diabetes, heart disease, mental health, nutrition, and preventative care.

Bridget E. Quinn, President and CEO of Hartford Public Library, expressed the library’s commitment to serving its diverse community, stating, “This funding helps us continue to take meaningful steps toward health equity by ensuring our Spanish-speaking community can access the health information they need and want in their preferred language.” The grant aims to enhance representation and improve health literacy among Spanish-speaking residents.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to address health disparities and make essential information accessible to all. The funding highlights the importance of culturally relevant resources in promoting better health outcomes within local communities, supported by the NLM and National Institutes of Health.
