West Haven Bridges on I-95 to be Replaced by Department of Transportation – NBC Connecticut

Construction has begun on Interstate 95 in West Haven to replace two bridges and improve traffic flow in the area, according to the governor’s office. The project includes replacing bridges over 1st Avenue and the Metro-North Railroad tracks, as well as extending the southbound lane to reduce congestion and enhance safety.

The project, estimated to cost $136.5 million, will be mostly covered by federal funds with a 10% contribution from the state. Construction is expected to last until 2027, with minimal disruptions to traffic until 2025.

Gov. Ned Lamont highlighted the long-term benefits of the project, stating that it is an investment in public safety and mobility for the region. The construction is also creating jobs that support local families and strengthen the state’s workforce.
