A New Haven man, Delienne Moncrieft, was arrested and charged with second-degree sexual assault after an investigation revealed he sexually assaulted his 23-year-old stepdaughter. The victim, who has intellectual disabilities, became pregnant and had a miscarriage six months into the pregnancy. North Haven police collected fetal tissue samples, including paternal DNA, which did not match any profiles in the database. With the help of Othram, a company specializing in Forensic Genetic Genealogy, investigators were able to create a family tree and identify Moncrieft as the suspect. He was arrested on Tuesday after a year-long investigation. North Haven police expressed gratitude to the Connecticut State Forensic Laboratory and Othram for their assistance in providing justice for the victim. The case was described as extremely complex, and without the expertise and hard work of these organizations, it would still be ongoing. Moncrieft is currently being held on $200,000 bond.
