A car carrier transporting six vehicles on Interstate 95 South in Norwalk caught fire early Wednesday morning, prompting fire officials to respond. The blaze, which began around 5:53 a.m. just before Exit 14, engulfed four out of six cars on the carrier. Fire officials determined that the fire started in the brakes and spread to the cars after the driver was unable to extinguish it with an extinguisher. An additional engine and a tanker from Stamford were called in as a precaution. The fire was eventually extinguished and specialized towing equipment was requested to remove the damaged cars and trailer from the highway. No injuries were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Photo evidence provided by Norwalk FD shows the intensity of the fire and the damage caused to the vehicles and carrier.
