Stuck Astronauts at NASA Welcome Newly Arrived Replacements to the Space Station

A SpaceX crew capsule arrived at the International Space Station, bringing replacements for NASA’s two stuck astronauts. The four new astronauts from the U.S., Japan, and Russia will spend a few days learning from the current crew before strapping into their own capsule to return to Earth. The original astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, were supposed to return after a week but have been in space for nine months due to issues with the Boeing Starliner capsule. The new arrivals were greeted with hugs and handshakes as they floated in. The return of Wilmore and Williams was delayed due to battery repairs on their replacements’ capsule, with their departure now scheduled for mid-March. The SpaceX capsule carrying them and two other astronauts is set to undock from the space station and splash down off Florida’s coast later this week. In the meantime, there will be 11 astronauts aboard the station, representing the U.S., Russia, and Japan, until the return mission is completed.
