Renowned author Daniel Kahneman dies by assisted suicide in Switzerland – Lifestyle News

Daniel Kahneman, the Nobel laureate and renowned psychologist known for his groundbreaking book Thinking, Fast and Slow, passed away on March 27, 2024, at an assisted suicide facility in Switzerland. The decision was kept private, with Kahneman informing only close friends and family of his choice. His friend and colleague, Philip Tetlock, speculated that Kahneman had carefully weighed the quality of his remaining years and had planned his death in a way that allowed him to avoid a long decline.

Kahneman’s decision was deeply personal, and he did not endorse assisted suicide for others. In his final email, he reflected on his belief that the miseries and indignities of the last years of life were unnecessary, and he felt it was time to go at the age of ninety. While he was still active and enjoying life, he acknowledged the physical and cognitive decline he was experiencing.

Tetlock praised Kahneman’s foresight and planning, stating that he had never seen a better-planned death than the one Kahneman had designed for himself. Despite his decision to end his life, Kahneman expressed that he was still happy and content, but felt it was the right time to pass on. His legacy as a pioneer in the field of psychology will continue to inspire and influence future generations for years to come.
