Locals in Connecticut are shocked and stunned after a 32-year-old man was found emaciated in a property in Waterbury, where he had allegedly been held captive and abused by his stepmother for two decades. The stepmother, Kimberly Sullivan, has been arrested on charges including kidnapping, assault, and unlawful restraint. The community is struggling to process the news that such abuse was happening right in their midst for years.
The mayor of Waterbury made an appeal for people to respect the privacy of the victim, whose identity has not been revealed. The Connecticut Department of Children and Families expressed shock and sadness for the victim and the conditions he endured.
Sullivan’s attorney maintains her innocence and claims she was shocked at the allegations. He did not provide a reason for the man’s extremely low weight as per medical records, but mentioned that the man’s biological father had passed away in January 2024. The attorney stated that Sullivan continued to maintain the home and provide for the man even after the father’s passing.
The community is reeling from the discovery of the abuse and is reminded of the importance of diligently protecting children from neglect and abuse. The investigation into the case continues, with many still struggling to come to terms with the horrors that occurred right within their own neighborhood.
