Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services (IRIS) has announced the closure of their New Haven office due to a sudden decrease in federal funding. The cost-saving decision will result in the closing of their Nicoll Street office by April 30. Despite the closure, IRIS plans to continue operating through the end of March to ensure they can still meet with clients.
Executive Director Maggie Mitchell-Salem expressed gratitude for the support from volunteers and donors during this challenging time. IRIS, known for its work in assisting refugees and immigrants in the New Haven area, will continue to provide vital services to the community despite the office closure.
The organization’s decision comes amidst ongoing challenges faced by many non-profit organizations due to changes in funding. IRIS remains committed to its mission of supporting refugees and immigrants, and will work to navigate this funding setback while continuing to serve those in need.
