Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has announced that legendary guitarist Keith Richards will be the first recipient of the Connecticut Governor’s Award of Excellence, a new honor celebrating residents who embody the state’s core values. Richards, a longtime Connecticut resident, founding member of the Rolling Stones, and community philanthropist, is being recognized for his contributions to enriching the state’s cultural and civic life. The award, which consists of a custom-designed medallion and ribbon, will be presented to Richards at a ceremony at The Westport Library on March 5, 2025. Governor Lamont praised Richards for his creativity, resourcefulness, and passion, as well as his dedication to supporting local community causes. Richards, known for his musical career with the Rolling Stones, also has a successful solo career, onscreen appearances, and books to his credit. He has been inducted into multiple Halls of Fame. The Westport Library executive director expressed excitement at hosting the event, honoring Richards’ cultural influence and empowering impact on others.
