Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont is stepping up to help federal workers who have been affected by job loss or unpaid leave due to government cutbacks. With over 70,000 job openings in the state, the Labor Department is offering career services, job fairs, and unemployment assistance. Five job fairs will be held this month and are open to the public at no cost. The initiative comes in response to President Donald Trump’s efforts to reduce the size of the government.
Federal workers and contractors in need of assistance are encouraged to seek help from the state. There are around 18,800 federal employees currently working in Connecticut. The American Job Centers in Connecticut provide job placement and career services to all residents for free, including resume writing, job search assistance, and support for veterans transitioning to civilian roles. Both in-person and virtual appointments are available. The state is committed to supporting those affected by the government changes and providing resources to help them find new employment opportunities.
