Longtime NBC Connecticut reporter and Bristol native, Tom Monahan, has passed away at the age of 84, his wife confirmed. Monahan, who retired in 2010 after 45 years with the network, suffered a stroke in Florida before his passing. He began his career as a booth announcer in 1965 and later became a beloved television newscaster, covering some of the biggest stories in Connecticut’s history. Monahan reported on events such as the 1978 Hartford Civic Center roof collapse, Hurricane Gloria in 1985, and the departure of the Hartford Whalers in 1997. He was also known for his political reporting and was considered the state’s top political television reporter. Monahan and his wife split their time between Burlington, Connecticut, and Florida. His dedication to journalism and passion for storytelling will be remembered by colleagues and viewers alike.
