UConn women’s basketball star Paige Bueckers has been named one of five finalists for the prestigious Nancy Lieberman Award, presented by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. The award recognizes the top point guard in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball and is now in its 26th year. Bueckers, a redshirt senior, leads UConn with impressive stats including 18.6 points and 5.0 assists per game, as well as a nation-leading 3.69 assist-turnover ratio.
Bueckers, who hails from Hopkins, Minnesota, has had a standout season scoring over 20 points in 14 games and maintaining an impressive shooting split. She has also excelled against top-25 opponents this season, showcasing her skills as one of the most efficient guards in the nation.
The talented player previously won the Lieberman Award in 2021 as a freshman, making her the first freshman to receive this honor. Bueckers follows in the footsteps of other UConn Huskies who have won the award in the past, including Moriah Jefferson, Renee Montgomery, Diana Taurasi, and Sue Bird.
The Huskies, with an impressive record of 28-3 and 18-0 in the BIG EAST, are heading to the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed. They will face either St. John’s or Butler in the quarterfinals this weekend. With Bueckers leading the team, UConn is expected to make a strong push in the tournament as they aim for another successful postseason run.
