NBC Connecticut Reports New Indictment Charges against Former CT Budget Official and State Representative

Former Connecticut officials facing charges for Medicaid fraud cover-up

Former Connecticut budget official, Konstantinos “Kosta” Diamantis, and ex-state representative, Chris Ziogas, are facing charges for canceling a state audit of a Medicaid provider accused of fraud. The indictment alleges that Diamantis received bribes from an optometrist, Helen Zervas, in exchange for halting the audit.

Ziogas, who was engaged to Zervas, contacted Diamantis for help in resolving the audit issue. The indictment states that Diamantis accepted bribes totaling $30,000 from Zervas, leading to the cancellation of the audit and receiving a bribe of $65,000.

Both Diamantis and Ziogas are accused of making false statements during FBI interviews. They face 18 counts, including extortion, making false statements, and more. If found guilty, they could face significant prison time.

The investigation is ongoing, and Zervas has already pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud and public corruption offenses. Diamantis and Ziogas have pleaded not guilty and were released on $500,000 bonds.
