Ty Lott’s life was saved by quick-thinking nurses and a firefighter when he collapsed in the locker room after a basketball game. After recovering from cardiac arrest, Ty and his family, along with nonprofit In a Heartbeat and the Greater Waterbury YMCA, hosted a free cardiac care screening event. The event aimed to detect heart conditions early on, in order to prevent future emergencies like the one Ty experienced.
In a Heartbeat President & Founder Mike Papale, who also survived cardiac arrest at a young age, emphasized the importance of early detection in preventing sudden cardiac arrest. The ECG tests provided at the event were quick, painless, and able to detect most heart conditions that may go unnoticed.
Ty’s quick recovery and willingness to help others so soon after his own traumatic experience has inspired many in the community. The event brought people together from different schools to raise awareness about heart health and the importance of getting regular cardiac check-ups. Together, they celebrated Ty’s survival and shared a message of hope and preventative action.
