Pope Francis showed signs of slight improvement in his condition as he continued to receive hospital care for double pneumonia. The Vatican reported that the 88-year-old pontiff had slept well overnight and was resting on Thursday morning. Hundreds of people gathered in St. Peter’s Square to pray for him, as he remained in critical condition. However, there was some relief as there was a “slight improvement” in his condition earlier in the week, with a decrease in a mild renal insufficiency and a normal chest CT scan. While Francis did not experience any respiratory crises on Wednesday, he continued to receive high-flow oxygen therapy. The Vatican stated that the pope’s prognosis remained “reserved,” and it was unclear whether he was still in critical condition. More updates on his condition were expected later in the day. Nightly masses have been held for the pope since his admission to the hospital on Feb. 14. Despite the hopeful signs of improvement, concerns still lingered for the health of Pope Francis as he battled double pneumonia while receiving medical care.
