Emergency Landing in Atlanta: Delta Flight Deploys Slides After ‘Haze’ Reported on Plane

A Delta Air Lines flight heading to South Carolina was forced to return to Atlanta shortly after takeoff due to reports of possible smoke on the aircraft. The flight was in the air for only 35 minutes before landing back in Atlanta. The crew followed procedures and declared an emergency to get priority handling from air traffic control. Video footage showed passengers covering their mouths and noses due to the haze in the cabin. The plane had 94 passengers on board along with two pilots and three flight attendants. Slides were deployed upon landing and all passengers were deplaned with assistance from Atlanta Fire Rescue. The incident had a moderate impact on airport operations and the Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating. This was the second smoke-related issue to impact a Delta flight within a week, with another flight returning to Los Angeles International Airport just two days prior. Overall, Delta Air Lines prioritizes the safety of its customers and crew and apologized for the experience.
