Two Hartford residents have been arrested by state police after being accused of receiving bins filled with $600,000 worth of cocaine that were shipped to them. The arrests were made as part of a long-term investigation into cocaine being shipped through commercial parcel carriers from Puerto Rico to multiple cities in Connecticut.
The investigation started when two suspicious packages from Puerto Rico were discovered at a shipping facility in Hartford, both addressed to the same Hartford location. Law enforcement agencies then served a search warrant which led to the discovery of cocaine-filled packages.
Detectives replaced the cocaine with a sham substance and made a delivery to the Hartford address, where a woman accepted the package and a man attempted to flee but was apprehended. Inside the residence, police found the woman, a 2-year-old child, drug paraphernalia, and what is believed to be fentanyl.
The man and woman were charged with conspiracy to commit sale of a controlled substance and risk of injury to a minor. They are being held on $1 million bond and are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
