Dennis Hernandez, the brother of former NFL player Aaron Hernandez, was sentenced for threatening a shooting at the University of Connecticut and to kill three people outside of the state, including a judge. He pleaded guilty to transmitting threats in December 2023 and was sentenced to 18 months in prison, time already served, and three years of supervised release. Hernandez had threatened shootings at UConn and Brown University, claiming some shootings are necessary for change. He also made multiple Facebook posts threatening to harm or kill three out-of-state individuals. Hernandez must undergo mental health and substance abuse treatment during supervised release and allow monitoring of his electronic devices. He is prohibited from visiting UConn and other locations he targeted in his threats. Hernandez has been in custody since July 2023 and will now be under supervised probation.
