Warriors on the Verge of Completing Jimmy Butler Trade; All-Star Commits to New Contract – NBC Connecticut

The Golden State Warriors have made a big splash in the NBA trade market, finalizing a blockbuster trade to acquire Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. The trade involves sending Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schröder, Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters III, and a protected first-round draft pick to the Heat. Butler has agreed to a new two-year, $121 million contract extension with the Warriors.

The deal also includes Waters and Miami’s Josh Richardson heading to the Detroit Pistons as part of a multi-team deal, and Schröder going to the Utah Jazz. The Heat will receive Golden State’s 2025 first-round pick, protected for selections 1 through 10.

The news ends a saga in which Butler sought a trade out of Miami, and the Warriors shifted their focus to acquiring him after failing to reunite with Kevin Durant. Despite Butler previously indicating he would not sign an extension with Golden State, he has now agreed to the new deal.

Butler, a six-time NBA All-Star, joins a Warriors team in need of a second scorer alongside Steph Curry. Wiggins, who helped the Warriors win the 2022 NBA Finals, departs after averaging 17.6 points this season. Schröder and Anderson, acquired in previous trades, also leave the team.

The reported deal comes after signs of an impending trade, with players saying their goodbyes before the news broke. The Warriors have been actively pursuing a star player before the trade deadline, and Butler seems to be the answer to their search.
