NBC Connecticut Reports Alert Regarding Illegal Slot Machines in the State

Connecticut’s Department of Consumer Protection Gaming Division has seized illegal slot machines and issued a warning about these machines designed to steal money from users. The department confiscated six illegal machines and $900 in cash from four locations in December, emphasizing that slot machines outside of Foxwoods Casino and Mohegan Sun Casino are illegal.

The illegal machines have no age restrictions and offer worse odds than regulated slot machines and legal iGaming platforms. The department found one machine had collected $191,359 but paid out only 66 percent to users, well below the required 80 percent for regulated machines. Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, DraftKings, and FanDuel returned over 94.6 percent of wagers to customers in 2024.

DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli advised gambling only on legal, licensed platforms and urged reporting of illegal machines. Anyone with information on illegal machines can contact DCP for enforcement action against operators. Those with gambling problems can seek help from the Connecticut Council on Problem Gaming. Illegal gaming machines can be reported to DCP via email.
