Connecticut residents were shocked to learn that over a million people had their personal information compromised in a health care data breach involving Community Health Center. Attorney General William Tong revealed that 575,000 patients had their personal health information, including social security numbers and COVID-19 vaccination records, exposed. An additional 571,000 people had their vaccination records accessed, along with 4,200 employees.
Community Health Center, with locations in Norwalk, Stamford, Stratford, Greenwich, and Danbury, stated that the stolen information could include diagnosis, treatment details, test results, and health insurance information. The breach, discovered on Jan. 2, 2024, was traced back to a vendor using approved software.
The agency has promised to notify all impacted individuals and provide 24 months of free credit monitoring. Concerned individuals are encouraged to contact IDX at 1-877-229-9277 for more information and to sign up for identity protection services. Community Health Center assured the public that they have strengthened their security measures to prevent future breaches.
