Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford, Connecticut has opened a unique thrift store inside its library called the Top Drawer Thrift Store. Stocked with clothing, shoes, and accessories, the store is run by students and teachers to provide resources for those in need. The idea was inspired by a similar store in Branford High School, where students, teachers, and the student support team run a successful thrift store. The goal is to show students the importance of reusing clothing and reducing waste. Since opening in October, over 400 students have visited the Top Drawer Thrift Store. The staff, led by social worker Kristina Jensen and English teacher Jenn Castelli, have been overwhelmed by the support and donations from the community. Principal Joseph Corso fully supports the initiative and is proud of the impact it is making on students. While the school is not currently accepting donations, they will inform the community when this changes. Overall, the thrift store is making a big difference in the lives of students and promoting sustainability.
