NBC Connecticut hosts figure skating fundraiser for victims of DC plane crash

A figure skating tribute event called “Legacy on Ice” is set to take place at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on March 2. The event aims to support the victims of the midair collision and crash outside Ronald Reagan International Airport, in which 28 figure skaters were among the 67 people killed. The tragedy has deeply affected the skating community, as many aboard had just been to a development camp after the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

The tribute event, organized by Monumental Sports & Entertainment, U.S. Figure Skating, DC Fire & EMS Foundation, and the Greater Washington Community Foundation, will feature performances by top figure skaters including Brian Boitano, Ilia Malinin, Amber Glenn, and more. The proceeds from the event will go to the U.S. Figure Skating Family Support Fund, Greater Washington Community Foundation’s DCA Together Relief Fund, and DC Fire & EMS Foundation.

The event is aimed at providing a platform for the community to come together and support each other during this difficult time. It will also serve as a fundraiser to help ease the pain and support the families of the victims. Tickets will go on sale on February 10. This tribute event hopes to not only honor the memories of those lost in the tragedy but also to provide comfort and healing for those affected by the crash.
