Information session on speed enforcement cameras to be held in Middletown

Middletown, Connecticut could soon be joining Washington as one of the first towns in the state to install speed enforcement cameras. The decision comes after a public information session held by the Middletown Public Safety Commission to address the issue of speeding in the town. Police Chief Erik Costa indicated that the first camera will be installed on Washington Street, with other proposed locations including Enfield Street, South Main Street, and Country Club Road. The aim is to reduce fatalities on the road, with resident Jonah Hall sharing a personal story of losing a friend in a road accident on Washington Street. The Public Safety Commission passed an ordinance in July to bring the cameras to the city, with speeding drivers being sent a ticket in the mail for their offenses. Before the cameras are rolled out, a data study needs to be completed and final approval from the council and state is required, which is expected to take a few more months.
