Sparks acquire Kelsey Plum, Aces trade for Jewell Loyd from Storm: Report – NBC Connecticut

Multiple WNBA teams have agreed to a major trade deal right before the start of free agency. The Los Angeles Sparks, Las Vegas Aces, and Seattle Storm will see key players switching teams as part of this multi-team trade. Kelsey Plum will head to the Sparks, while Jewell Loyd will be joining the Aces. In return, Seattle will acquire the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 draft and a 6-foot-7 center Li Yueru.

Loyd, a two-time WNBA champion and six-time All-Star, requested the trade from Seattle after an external investigation into reported harassment and bullying accusations against the team’s coaching staff. She will be joining the Aces led by star A’ja Wilson. In exchange, Plum will head to the Sparks, who are currently undergoing a rebuilding phase with young stars on the roster. Former Ace Dearica Hamby is also a member of the Sparks.

This trade comes after the Aces won back-to-back WNBA titles but fell short of a three-peat in the previous season. The Storm, led by Loyd, had a successful regular season but were eliminated in the playoffs by the Aces. With the upcoming draft, the Storm could potentially land top prospects like Paige Bueckers or Azzi Fudd with the No. 2 overall pick. The trade deal is seen as a strategic move by these teams to improve their rosters and compete in the upcoming WNBA season.
