Lamont selects William Bright for Connecticut Supreme Court

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has nominated 15 individuals for judicial roles, including William H. Bright Jr. for the Supreme Court and Robin L. Wilson for the Appellate Court. Bright would succeed Raheem Mullins as an associate justice, while Wilson would take Bright’s place on the Appellate Court.

The governor also nominated 13 individuals for the Superior Court, including former legislators and individuals with diverse legal backgrounds. The nominees range in age from 41 to 65 and include a variety of legal professionals such as public defenders, prosecutors, and commercial litigators.

Governor Lamont’s remaking of the Connecticut judiciary amid a wave of retirements has allowed for greater diversity in the courts, with a focus on gender and racial balance. The current nominees, if confirmed, will bring the judiciary to full strength while maintaining the diversity that enhances public confidence in the courts.

Both Bright and Wilson have extensive experience as judges, with Bright having served for 16 years and Wilson for 21 years. The nominations reflect Lamont’s commitment to selecting qualified and experienced individuals for judicial roles.

The nominees will be considered by the General Assembly for confirmation, marking another step in Lamont’s efforts to reshape the Connecticut judiciary with a focus on diversity and experience.
