Zuckerberg highlights Meta’s investments in artificial intelligence

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced plans to build a massive data center in Louisiana to power its new AI model, Llama 4, which is set to launch this year. The company will invest over $60 billion into AI, with the data center being as large as a significant part of Manhattan. Zuckerberg predicts Meta AI will serve over 1 billion people by 2025 and Llama 4 will be a leading model. Despite the significant investment, Meta has the capital to continue investing in the future.

This announcement comes amidst a surge in AI investment, with President Trump launching Project Stargate, a joint venture in AI infrastructure with investments of up to $500 billion. Other tech executives, such as Elon Musk, have also shown interest in AI development.

AI technology has become a focal point for tech companies, with companies like OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic leading the way. Nvidia, a company specializing in GPUs used to train AI models, had a high market capitalization in 2024. Trump also signed an executive order to further AI development in the U.S.

Zuckerberg expects Meta to serve over 1 billion people with AI assistance and for Llama 4 to be a leading model. The addition of the Louisiana data center will allow Meta to end the year with over 1.3 million GPUs. The project will be located in Richland Parish, Louisiana, a rural area with a population of around 19,000 people.
