Connecticut has introduced a bill that would allow sports gambling on flights arriving or departing from the state. Despite federal laws that could hinder the bill’s progress, attorney Daniel Wallach believes that the use of cell phones to place bets may not be considered a violation. The issue of legality is further complicated by the fact that some states still prohibit sports gambling, while others have legalized it in some form over the past decade. In a related development, Delta Air Lines is reportedly close to partnering with DraftKings, a major player in the sports gambling industry.
Meanwhile, a study conducted by Eilers & Krejcik suggests that legalizing sports betting in Texas could generate significant revenue for the state, with an estimated $360 million in tax revenue, over 8,000 jobs created, and $2.6 billion in economic output annually. Despite the potential benefits, it remains to be seen whether Texas will move towards legalizing sports gambling.
