Jack Hoffman, the inspirational cancer patient who captured the hearts of Nebraska football fans in 2013, has sadly passed away at the age of 19 after battling brain cancer. Hoffman’s story began when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2011, leading his parents to establish the Team Jack Foundation to support pediatric brain cancer research. His father, Andy Hoffman, also battled brain cancer and passed away in 2021.
Hoffman’s friendship with Huskers running back Rex Burkhead led to a memorable moment at the 2013 spring game, where he ran for a touchdown with the support of both teams and tens of thousands of fans. The heartwarming video of his touchdown gained national attention and won an ESPY Award for “Best Moment in Sports.”
Following his rise to fame, Hoffman visited President Barack Obama in the Oval Office and continued to inspire others with his courage and positive spirit. He went on to play football in high school and pursued a pre-law major at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
Hoffman’s passing has deeply saddened the Nebraska community, with tributes pouring in from supporters and the Huskers team.
