Yale New Haven Health has announced that starting on Wednesday, Jan. 15, staff members will be required to wear masks during interactions with patients due to an increase in respiratory virus illnesses. While patients and visitors are encouraged to wear masks, it is not mandatory for them. However, anyone with a respiratory tract infection is strongly advised to wear a mask when around others.
According to a spokesperson, wearing masks has been proven to reduce the transmission of viruses and protect patients, staff, and visitors. This measure is being implemented in order to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals within the healthcare system.
The decision to require masks for staff members comes as a response to the rising number of respiratory illnesses being reported. By taking this proactive step, Yale New Haven Health aims to mitigate the spread of viruses and maintain a healthy environment for both patients and healthcare workers.
