This win marks UConn’s fourth consecutive NCAA First Round victory and their first win away from Morrone Stadium since 2009. With a six-game win streak, the Huskies have also secured their first NCAA win since 2016.
In the first half, Johnson provided a crucial assist to Okafor for the opening goal, followed by a header from Cappadona off a corner kick by Ryder. Rutgers managed to score a goal in the 70th minute, but UConn held strong to secure the win. The team’s game management was key in their victory.
Next up, the Huskies will face No. 3 seed Stanford in the NCAA Second Round on Friday, November 22 at the University of Arkansas. This upcoming match will be a test for UConn as they look to continue their winning streak in the tournament.
