What information do we have about the victims?

The Southern California wildfires have tragically claimed the lives of eleven individuals so far, with thousands of structures destroyed and roughly 180,000 people evacuated. Among the victims are people who displayed incredible bravery and selflessness in attempting to protect their homes during the devastating fires.

Anthony Mitchell and his son Justin perished in their Altadena home, with Anthony staying behind to be with Justin, who had cerebral palsy and could not evacuate. Anthony’s father, Victor Shaw, also lost his life trying to defend the family home that had been in their possession for over five decades. Another victim, Erliene Louise Kelley, chose to stay in her home, assuming everything would be fine, but ultimately lost her life when the fire engulfed the house.

Rodney Kent Nickerson, who reassured his family that he would be safe, was found deceased in his bed after trying to hose down his property. Former child star Rory Sykes, who had cerebral palsy and was unable to evacuate, died in the fire after his mother was unable to save him due to her broken arm.

These heartbreaking stories highlight the bravery, love, and sacrifice shown by individuals in the face of the wildfires. Their memories will live on with their families and loved ones who are mourning their loss.
