The flight data and cockpit voice recorders on the Jeju Air jet that crashed on Dec. 29 stopped recording about four minutes before the crash. Authorities are investigating the reason for the stop in recording. The damaged recorders were sent to the United States for analysis. The Boeing 737-800 aircraft crashed at Muan International Airport in South Korea, killing 179 people. The pilots reported a bird strike and declared an emergency before the crash. The investigation also focuses on the embankment that the plane hit. Some of the victims’ families want independent experts to be involved in the investigation. The discovery of missing data from the final minutes of the flight suggests a complete power failure. The transport ministry has promised transparency in the investigation and sharing information with the victims’ families.
