National Quitter’s Day was observed on January 10, 2025, when many people collectively abandon their New Year’s resolutions. According to Dr. Tobias Wasser, chair of psychiatry at Quinnipiac University, people often give up on their resolutions because they set overly ambitious or unrealistic goals. He recommends setting specific goals and developing a plan to accomplish them.
One individual, Rachel Larosa, shared her resolution to climb the wall more comfortably and increase the difficulty level at the Ascent New Haven gym. Larosa has been focusing on training and feeling confident about her resolution after landing on UConn’s climbing team.
Quinnipiac University’s School of Medicine offered tips for sustaining resolutions, including habit stacking, finding support, tracking progress, and being kind to oneself. By linking new goals to established habits, sharing goals with friends or family, monitoring progress, and not giving up after setbacks, individuals can work towards achieving their resolutions successfully.
